5 Questions with Reko Ukko
1. Where were you/what did you do before working at Seriously?
I’ve worked in the game industry for 15 years. Previously, I was the head of design at NaturalMotion in Oxford, UK.
2. What is your current role at Seriously?
I’m the VP of Game Design at Seriously, but my day-to-day is pretty varied these days. I tweak and add some details to our new game features in Best Fiends. I also make sure that we integrate new things in a way that is “world-facing,” meaning that it expands the lore, characters, and world of Minutia itself. And when I’m not in the office, I can be found speaking at various events.
3. What’s your favorite part about your job?
I love that every day is different and unexpected. There’s a good mix of known and unknown unknowns.
4. Who is your favorite Fiend or Slug and why?
I’ve always loved Lug and his Lootballoon. The Slug King’s commands fall on deaf ears most of the time, but I love the idea of this supposedly elite group of Slugs that roam across the world and wreak havoc while actually spending most of the time in the repair dock. Lug’s leadership ability is something that no one should take tips from.
5. When you are not working at Seriously or playing Best Fiends, what do you enjoy doing?
I like new experiences. I tend to be curious about everything and try things that someone might say “I could never do that!” I love climbing and hiking mountains and exploring the outdoors. At the same time, I love staying indoors and playing board games or video games (Destiny 2 yay!). I also read a lot. Some of the most recent books I’ve read were about medicine and surgery in the 1800s and the hunt for nutmeg during the 1600s. But the one thing I love most is seeing my daughter grow up and getting the opportunity to play all kinds of games with her.
