5 Questions with Henrick Shyu
1. Where were you/what did you do before working at Seriously?
Before I joined the Seriously team, I worked as a software engineer in the mobile and games industries in Tokyo for six years. Before that, I was an app developer in Silicon Valley, where I’m originally from. I had heard legends of Finland being the happiest country on the planet, in addition to being a mobile gaming hotspot, so had to come see for myself! So far, I’ve not been disappointed.
2. What is your current role at Seriously?
I’m a programmer. My job is to integrate all of the art, levels, and ideas from artists and designers into Best Fiends to create an enjoyable player experience. Ensuring that the game runs smoothly without a hitch for all of our players is a daily challenge that keeps my job fun and exciting.
3. What’s your favorite part about your job?
I love working with cutting-edge technology. Games push the limit of software and hardware, and the tools to build them even more so. Working with all the tools and processes in action is like conducting an orchestra, and I’m constantly learning something new.
4. Who is your favorite Fiend or Slug and why?
Astro Ru, the wingless wasp that became a MINSA astronaut and made it into orbit. I mean, what a success story! Who needed wings anyway?
5. When you are not working at Seriously or playing Best Fiends, what do you enjoy doing?
I used to enjoy traveling, sailing, and going to the gym. But after the birth of my daughter, I now spend most of my days rolling around on the ground with her. And I wouldn’t have it any other way!
