5 Questions With…Emma Luoto

5 Questions with Emma Luoto

1. Where were you/what did you do before working at Seriously?
Before Seriously, I worked at Neogames, the non-profit organization supporting the development of the Finnish game industry. There, I was thrown into the deep end straight away, but it was an amazing way to learn the ins and outs of the game industry, and quickly.

Before Neogames I worked as a high school teacher in Helsinki, teaching math, physics and IT. Even though my background is a little unconventional for this role, I think it gives me an edge. I love that it is the perfect combination of behavioral studies and science.

2. What is your current role at Seriously?
My official title is Office Manager but I also do a lot of HR tasks. I do everything from organizing our office parties to office renovations, from getting milk to aiding in the entire recruitment process. I work on anything to do with the office space and people in it, making sure that the whole operation runs smoothly and efficiently so everyone can be their best, most productive and creative selves.

3. What’s your favorite part about your job?
My job is so much about the people so I have to say that my favorite part is the people here at Seriously. There’s so many talented and passionate people working here and I just love seeing what they come up with to release to the world.

For my role specifically, I really enjoy that my job is so versatile. One day I’m working to hire a new game programmer and the next I’m organizing an offsite to Los Angeles for the whole Helsinki team! Something that I love about my job is that I will (often accidentally) create traditions for the office. We now have annual events and challenges like the Stair Challenge month, the Seriously Amazing Race, and an Easter Egg Hunt (complete with a traditional Finnish dessert at the end!). People usually get very excited about what I plan, and it’s fun to see the office come together and take a little break to then return to work a little more invigorated. Plus, when I see the positive reactions, I then plan more fun stuff to keep the fun times rolling.

4. Who is your favorite Fiend or Slug and why?
I love Brittle, she’s a bit nervous and with her steampunk glasses a bit nerdy too – so just like me!

5. When you are not working at Seriously or playing Best Fiends, what do you enjoy doing?
I love baking and I sometimes make cakes for my coworkers. I’m also in the Scouts and we do a lot of outdoorsy stuff. I think most often you can find me curled up on the sofa, watching Netflix. I do actually play a lot of Best Fiends – I was already on level 300-something when I joined Seriously.
